Look of the Week: Lea Michele

Lea Michele was dazzling on the red carpet once again at the Tony Awards held at Radio City Music Hall in New York on June 13th. She looked magnificent in an amber Zac Posen strapless gown, Kotur clutch, and Tiffany jewels. She attended the ceremony with fellow GLEE costar and real-life bff Jonathan Groff. Her look was simple yet bold. We loved it!

From Runway to Reality: How Oscar Dresses Measured Up

Actresses tend to wear the most extravagant gowns to the Oscars.  And the 2010 Oscars is no different, where many of the gowns came straight off the Paris Couture shows this year.  Here is the Culturistas rundown of which gowns worked and which didn't.

Zoe Saldana and her stylist took a very literal approach with this Givenchy couture gown. Zoe even wears the shoes pictured on the runway model.  She gets bonus points for styling her hair in an updo with much softer makeup than the runway show,  letting the gown speak for itself.  Zoe says on her gown, “It’s yards and yards of fabric. It’s the dress that the moment my stylist and I saw it we immediately fell in love with it. It fits everything I’ve been through leading up to tonight and my whole experience in Avatar. It embodies everything that I’ve been through. It’s big and it’s colourful and shimmery. That’s exactly what Avatar did.”

Jennifer Lopez wore the Armani Prive couture gown to the 2010 Oscars.  While the color is nice ethereal color and her and her stylist made some changes in the bodice of the gown to be more flattering, it just doesn't work.  The problem with so much added volume is that it adds volume to your shape as well.

Charlize Theron wore a Dior couture gown to this years Oscars.  Positives: Nice color change (there wasn't that much color on the red carpet) and it was probably right to take off the bow (though Charlize could have rocked it). Also nice soft hair and make-up.  Negatives: Taking off the beading made the bodice stand out way to much which just brought too much attention to the chest.  All in all this dress did not work for us.

Sarah Jessica Parker rocked this flowing Chanel Couture gown at the Oscars. Though the silhouette isn't that flattering, she pulls it off well.  The color of the beading looks like its been changed to a more silver based instead of a gunmetal which really makes the look softer for real life.  She also accessorized well which made for a great translation onto the red carpet.

Rachel McAdams was one of our best dressed this year on the Oscars red carpet. She wore this gorgeous flowing Elie Saab gown.  And it translated so well onto the red carpet that we think it looks even better in real life!  Her soft up-do and beautiful earrings help make this look spot on.

Look of the Week: THE JONAS BROTHERS

The Jonas Brothers stole hearts on the red carpet at the 2010 Grammys in Los Angeles this past Sunday. In Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Lanvin suits, the boys look polished and super suave. Both Joe and Kevin accessorized with David Yurman jewelery. Rock on boys!

The Golden Globes Best Dressed 2010

The Golden Globes 2010 was an entertaining event.  While the awards show was saddened by the horrible events in Haiti, many actors showed their support by wearing ribbons in recognition and support.  But the hilarious host Ricky Gervais was able to put a funny spin on things while he joked about audience members including Mel Gibson, Kiefer Sutherland and Angelina Jolie. 

But the Culturistas were mostly watching for the gorgeous fashion!! Despite the rain in Los Angeles, these celebs showed up dressed to impress!

The long awaited debut of the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection opens November 14! The launch will be in over 200 stores around the globe. Emmy 2009 Fashion!

Some starlette's rocked the red, others rocked the purple and blue. But all look gorgeous in their bright colors! We love love love Julia and Lindsays gowns. GORGEOUS draping and black contrast pieces.

White and shimmery dresses were also a huge trend on the 2009 Emmy red carpet. Kristen Chenowith rocked a mini version, while Olivia Wilde rocked a long fluttery version. And the silhouette on January Jones' dress is breathtaking!

WTF? Kanye West and Amber Rose MTV VMAs 2009

I am probably playing right into their plan for publicity but I HAVE to comment on Kanye West and his girlfriend Amber Rose's ensembles to the MTV VMA's tonight. Kanye decided to sport a leather sleeveless top while carrying a bottle of Hennessy down the red carpet, which just seems weird? Not to mention the fact that I usually love his fashion forward style... But most obviously Amber is wearing an snake skin body suit! Not only is it unflattering and disturbing, it is hideous. This deserves a straight up Culturista "WTF!"

PS: I think Kanye might have been drinking too much Hennessey when he proceeded to get up on stage to diss Taylor Swift when she was receiving the award.

Some fabulous fashion moments at the MTV movie awards happened on Sunday in Los Angeles. The young Hollywood crowd showed up looking fabulous and fun- as always. Sure seems like the mini dress is in style for this Spring/Summer 09!

Oscars Fashion Part 2 (The Worst of the Worst)

While most people were impeccably dressed last night, there were some who crossed the Culturista line.



Amandya Seyfried in Valentino Haute Couture. I don't know what she was thinking, but I have no doubt that the Mean Girls would not let her sit at their lunch table.



I am a big Beyonce fan, but I don't know what happened here. This tacky print is blinding.



Little miss Miley in a Zuhair Mirad gown. 15 year olds should not be wearing evening gowns. Does anyone remeber Leanne Rimes dress at the Oscars in the mid 90s?

Oscar Fashion Part 1 (The best of the best)

The Oscar's were tonight in Los Angeles. Among the actors at the show, there were a few sartorial standouts! Here they are:


Angelina looked gorgeous in this simple but chic Elie Saab gown. I was a little dissapointed that she wore black but her emerald earings and ring changed it up a bit.


Anne Hathaway showed up in a sparkling, gorgeous Armani Prive gown--however her make-up was not flattering--it made her look pretty tired.


Evan Rachel Wood's champagne colored Elie Saab gown had such gorgeous detailing and draping.


So refreshing that Natalie Portman showed up in a pretty color! I love this dress and the detail on the bodice--just gorgeous. And she was wearing Rodarte--one of our favorite designers :)

Vanessa Hudgens Oscar style

I typically LOVE Vanessa's red carpet style. Esp this dress she wore to this past Golden Globes (seen below) But I'm not quite sure what to think of her Marchesa gown she wore to the Oscar's tonight. Apparently it was made specially for her- which is pretty cool. I guess those weird flowers on the bodice are throwing me off. What do you guys think of Vanessa's Oscar look?

Look of the week: Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto showed up to the Elle Style Awards on Tuesday in this black frock with floral details (showing she is very on trend, looking back to last weeks couture shows). Freida has been on the award show circuit, due to her role in Slumdog Millionaire, dressing fabulously and uniquely every time. Her stylish choices and classy demeanor make her the Culturista's look of the week!

Grammys Fashion Round-up

The Grammys were last night at the Staples Center in LA. Pictured above is Jennifer Hudson-- looking fabulous in her black white and silver ensemble. I think the Grammys are a great time to have a little fun with your look- and wear a short dress. I was surprised to see a lot of women in long gowns.

MIA and Paris looked like they had a lot of fun with their looks, and Marissa Miller just looks perfectly dressed for the grammys in a really simple but so stylish white mini dress... Kudos to MIA whose personal style shines through even though shes pregnant.

Hasn't Lisa Rinna heard of mildly dressing your age?? I'm not saying a woman over 40 cant dress sexy...but her outfits are ridiculous. And Kate, you should have saved this for the Oscars.

These two young singers (Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus) looked all grown up in these long black gowns

Missing in action were Rihanna and Chris Brown, who had scheduled appearances. Brown was being investigated for allegedly assaulting an unidentified woman (reporters say Rihanna) the night before the show. Sources say he turned himself in to authorities the night of the Grammys and was briefly held before posting $50,000 bail.
